Convenor: Felicity Cull
This hub is the home of members with an interest in popular music, but it also captures the interest of those interested in the relationship between sound and noise and the communities created or excluded through rhythm, melody, harmony, syncopation and dancing.
We are interested in all forms of knowledge about sound and auditory cultures, from the fan experience right through to academic writing about popular music. We hope to create new languages of both criticism and appreciation, and new ways of thinking, feeling, writing and performing in and through sound.
We also believe in intervention in and through popular music policy, and its relationship with creative industries initiatives and city imaging. Our work in this area has been captured in the first book from the Popular Culture Collective, Liverpool of the South Seas: Perth and its popular music.
